Every parent has seen this story play out in real life... one child hurts another's feelings, the other retaliates, and off we are in a cycle of tears and heartache.
The beloved children's book, Be Bigger, helps children learn how to rise above hurt feelings, and learn to treat others as they would like to be treated-- even when it's hard.
For a limited time, to help all the parents and teachers working to keep social emotional development going during this difficult period, we're making Be Bigger free in video format.
Be Bigger tells the story of a young girl who has it all figured out. Her friend made her feel left out, so the only thing to do is to make a point of leaving her friend out-- she'll show her friend how bad it feels. But before the girl can turn one uncaring act into two, a wise old tree steps in to help her find a healthier way to deal with these friendship troubles. The story leads the girl through some self-awareness, learning to treat her friend with respect, and seeing the value in persevering through a challenge to reach a higher goal.
Be Bigger is part of our social emotional learning collection of books and free teaching resources. The video, along with some of the teaching resources makes for an instant SEL at-home lesson.
